Trucks and Rust
and soem oil based paint be the way to go? Just do the frame and any exposed metal of the underside of the cab? Should I prime over the rust retorer of use that as the primer/ base layer?
Thanks for all the help! I am so pumped to pick up my truck next week.
The Rust Encapsulator works WAY better than any others I've tried..cover with Chassis Black, it's durable, and looks great.
Lots of rust on the frame and running gear, relatively little on the body (the previous owner had the rear wheel arches and one front fender patched at some point, whoever did it it did a pretty crappy job), although the mounts on the radiator support are completely gone.
Much of the underbody was pretty nasty.
I've gone over pretty much the whole frame and whatever else I could reach from the doors back with a wire wheel on an angle grinder, then sprayed it all with undercoating.
The truck's underside originally was undercoated, but it has fallen off/is falling off all over the place. I still have some parts of the frame to do when it gets nicer, and I'm replacing the front springs so I'm gonna clean up the whole front axle and all that.
The previous owner replaced the rear-rear spring hangers because they were completely shot even when I first looked at it, but the rear-front hangers also look like they need replaced. If only I could find the damn things for less than $55 each.
Still gotta replace the front fuel tank, which I have.
