Transfer case leak

My 02 supercrew is leaking from the transfer case. Can I remove the cover and install a new gasketand oil myself? If so is this fairly easy for a greenhorn? Thanks

According to my manual, the front output shaft is held in place by a snap-ring inside the case. The only way to get to it is to split the cases.

The transfer case itself is pretty darn simple. Splitting the cases is easy to do but you do have to put it on the bench. I recently changed out the output shaft on mine. Can't find the pics of it anywhere
