Hey everyone. Trying to find a part/light bulb replacement for my running boards. I would like to try and find an led one, but unsure if they are making them for it. I have seen an led replacement for the interior dome, but not exterior. At any rate I need a bulb. Any part numbers, or should the local autozone or equvilant have in stock.
Good luck with that one. I can't even get to my bulbs to change one of them. The bolts are so rusted they will break if I try to remove them. Then I'd have to replace the whole thing.
The plate that protects the bulb socket is held in place with 3 bolts. They can all easily be replaced with stainless steel nuts/lockwash/bolts. Much better than what is there now. With that said, two them are fed through the plate that runs the length of the actual running board. In order to replace them, you would need to pull apart the whole running board set up. The bolt heads sit in a channel and that holds them in place from turning when tightening the bolt. I actually just used stainless steel bolts and grinded down the heads to make them rectangular. Worked like a charm. I had priced the actual bolts at my local dealership and i was informed that these bolts are.... Get this. around $26.00 EACH!!! Just ridiculous.
So... I take that back It is not that easy to replace
Hello all,
Running board lights on drivers side both lightup(2003 V10 Limited), only the front light on the passenger running board lights-up.
The rear light will not light-up and I have replaced the bulb. Could it be a bad wire even thought there is not any external indication(wires are not worn or torn). Any whay to tell which wire(color) might be bad?
If you have small hands you can get at the bulbs without having to remove the plate.
Moosed, the actual receptacle that holds the bulb is probably corroded and will no longer work. You can buy a new receptacle from Ford for about $20. When you install the new receptacle and the new bulb, make sure you use plenty of dielectric grease to keep the corrosion at bay.
Now if I could only find a way to clean up the lenses on those running board lights.
I used the LED Bulbs In my X and they light up nice and bright. The socket will go bad quick unless you try to seal it. I went through a few until I silicone them up as best as I could.
You can also change out the covers to new ones when they yellow.
You can see how well they work even during the day.
I also did all the other light inside and outside the truck. It gets a little expensive to get them all.
Galaxy67 where do you buy the led's from. That what I am after. I reference to the hands above that, I'll see what I can do so I dont have to remove the plate. Also as stated above the darn lenses are turning color. Possible the corrosion from the inside?

The lenses just yellow over time in the sun. Having dirt collect in those spots doesn't help either
I have it to where I can get to the bulbs without pulling the plates.
I got mine from eBay. I found this seller to have a better bulb then the others.
Hey galaxy thanks for the info. Do you remember which ones you used for the running boards. the 211 or the 168. Also was it a direct fit connectiuon or did you have to cut and split the wires. After looking to see how many I would actually need your right it is a lot of money. But, I think that they will last a lot longer than the old ones. Have you had to replace any yet.

The 194's are in the running boards, corner markers, glove box, license plate, door markers, and the instrument cluster.
The 912's fit under the hood, third brake light and the front map lights.
The 211's are for the dome lights, and I think there were 8 total.
Now that they have been made for awhile, the quality is a lot better. The 1st run years ago sucked. I've had these for a couple of years now and have had no losses.
Mine are on for long amounts of time at car shows and take some serious abuse from vibrations of the stereo system so I think they have come a long way in quality.
Love the tips here - i just ordered a few sets for my X
cheap and easy mods are a fav to help personalize the truck and make it have that modern look still
Im surprised to hear this as my lights are still working on my 00 x bought in Sept 99. I know now that I have said this tomorrow they will go out on me. At least I now know how to change them and the correct bulbs to get. I like the blue coloring it looks so much better then mine. Mine are weak and have never really lite up the running board. Maybe I ll attempt the change.
