4 misfiring

I'm a 20 year old, learn it and do it yourself, college student. I got a check engine light and the code came back as a bad EGR and a cylinder 4 misfire. I'm grabbing a new EGR valve from the boneyard this week, but the misfiring is worrying me.

1996 F150 4x4 5.0 5spd

The wires looks good, and so do the plugs. I seafomed it about 2 months ago. Which cylinder is #4, and what can i do to try and fix it?

I'll bring it to a mechanic if I HAVE HAVE HAVE to, but I'd love to be able to not ever have to do that again.

Thanks for any advice you guys can lay on me.

(Bump) I'm sure someone around here has some input. I'm driving my truck home from college (60-70 miles highway), and I'd like to be able to to try and remedy the problem before that.

Don't rely on the look of the wires, that doesn't tell you anything. Measure them with a DMM, they should measure about 5k ohms per foot when disconnected from the plug and distributor cap.

I don't have a meter at school, but I'll test that with my grandfather's when I do get home.

I've been slowly tuing it up as i go, but my lack of funds does make plugs, wires, and cap expesive. I needed to hear you guys say it could be an issue before I spent the money. My economy sucks too, so hoepfully that will give me a couple % increase as well.

You can also test the relative health of the wires if you start the vehicle in a completely dark location like inside a garage at night with the lights off(may have to disconnect daytime running lights). If you can see a lightshow under the hood you have bad wires.
