I was fed up with plastic latch breaking too.
Due to an incident, I now have an aftermarket window and I'm back to the old POS plastic latch.
BUT,
The DVL2 7/8" X 1 5/8" latch from CR Laurence was ordered from a local glass shop.
The kind of place where you would get a mirror cut to size or that would fix a store front.
CR Laurence is a large supplier of glazing material, since I don't have an account I asked a store near me if they would include this part# with their order.
It fit the original window in my truck and lasted 'till I blew the window into the cab.
I assume from Bills post it hadn't changed much over the years.
Thank you Bill for coming up w/ the correct part #, and admitting that Ford didn't always have 'A Better Idea'
