my 87 ranger 2wd is about to become 4wd reall soon but im unsure about what i will need to make this happen. im new to 4wd world t- cases, trasmissions what to do. any help from anyone would be awsome. 2.9l efi 5-speed can i use the tranny i already have? have low budget, also i was wondering what different types of wheels will fit my ride dodge, ford, chevy, pontic, olds or what? used parts if in good condition.
What a T-case you will get? electonically controlled (on demand AWD, ore all time AWD like aerostar has), ore manual? I dont know what rangers had in 80-s...
All them are easy to use, but what hubs yoy will get automatic ore manual....???
As I remember all rims with 2.5" centering fit ranger. Ma has Mustang 15" rims. (235*70R15)....

The transfer case options are the electronic shift or manual shift part time case.
I plan to use a Dana30 (Jeep)for my front and a BW1350 for my transfercase.
I will run 33s, no bigger.
Solid axle set up.
Cage has radius arms, shock mounts, and springs.
Most steering parts can be found on other internet sources - ebay, james duff, bronco graveyard and craigslist.
thanks for the input but all this info means nothing if i dont know what it means. i wish i were smarter about that stuff, its hard for me to understand
Is there a reason this particular truck has to be a 4x4?
It would be easier to buy a similar model factory 4x4 and be done with it.
The reason I say this is because most people have some knowledge of the parts and ID numbers mentioned.
Granted you are in a learning process like most of us, but a conversion would take time and as much money as a factory 4x4 of the same vintage would be.
BW - Borg Warner 1350 Transfercase - 1354 tc found in newer Rangers.
Dana 30 - Front drive axlehousing and associated parts
Dana 44 - " " " " " "
Dana 44s from a 66-77 Broncos have a narrower track width than larger trucks.
These axle housings can be used with a Solid Axle Sway - SAS.
You can also get an older wrecked Ranger 4x4 with a TTB (Twin Traction Beam) IFS found on early Rangers and early Explorers - up to 92?, and take all the parts from it and put it on your truck.
A rear end damaged truck would be best.
These would be Dana 28s and Dana 35s(from 4.0 Rangers and Explorers).
You would also need all mounting brackets, radius arms, springs, and transfercase.
