I am looking at a few used trucks. I have narrowed down to 2. an 06 F-350, and an 04 F-250. I am a little leary about the 04 only cause I had one bought back. I am not sure what build date on that engine to stay away from. It only has 35,000 miles on it and its real clean. Its a Crew cab FX4 which is what I am looking for. Now the 06 is a crew also but it has 53,000 miles on it and its 30,000. So both around the same price. I am looking to plow with it but it will be mostly city driving and sitting as I do have a company truck to use as well. They both have the 6.0 in them. My 04 also had a 6.0 and leaked coolant from the heads which is why I am a little leary of the 04...but not scared of the 6.0. I miss mine and would like to get one back but cant afford the new 6.4. So I gues I am asking for ome insight on this one. Its been 3 years since I have been over here in the 6. forum.
Start by getting an Oasis report on the 04 to see what it's service history is like. That'll tell you if it's a decent one or not. I currently have an 06 truck, but it's got an 04 motor in it. Not the motors fault, I pushed her to hard. I have no issues at all with the 04 motor that's in her currently.
If you can check the build date on the drivers door pillar, and it's in '06 (Jan might be a push), it should have the udated turbo that will help for those times when your truck sits (a problem for the earlier turbs from what I've read).
My vote would be the '06 -- but still check the OASIS report...
Can I get an Oasis Report from here or the dealer only. I have the Vin# from the truck with me. How do I tell if the 04 has an 04 motor in it. I dont want one with an 03 engine.
At the top of the forum there is a thread, the first one, says "Oasis Request Thread", go on in, post your vin and e-mail, someone will get it for you. The engine build date should be specified on the oasis, if I'm not mistaken.
