ok so i just got my new dlphi injectors installed and the truck sounded and ran better, no real surprise there. but after driving it around the block a few times to warm it up i pulled back into my driveway to look under the hood and check the injectors. all but one are just a little warm , but the #7 was hot 136 F. same spot and problem i had with the last injector i had in there. after i took the old #7 out the copper o-ring was really corroded and there was a lot of carbon build up along the shaft of the injector. so i figured it never sealed right for some reason. i made sure all of the new injectors were seated right and torqed down to 35 psi. could the bottom of the hole it screws into be worn? would adding a second o-ring help?
I would loosen the injector line capnut and retorque to 45....... then do the run again and recheck the temps. If the problem persists you may have to look into the injection hole a little better and ensure the seat is A ok.
when i took the last one out the o-ring did not come with it, i put a light by it to see so i could hook the old ring out. looked rather dirty down there but not much worse than the rest.
There is a tool to clean the carbon off the seat before you install a new injector.
But where to get one for a reasonable cost is another thing.
I have used a copper fitting brush before with better than nothing results.
No it is not perfect, but it does get the carbon loose so you can vacuum it out.
ok, so of course i could not find an apropriate brush, but i did get it all to work finnally. i got some wood dowels, some 3/8" pipe, and a bit of sand paper i had laying around the house. i also had some glue on hand incase the sandpaper got stuck. i pulled the injector, and put the 5/16" wodden dowel into the hole for the injector tip, then i cut the sandpaper into a nice little circle that would go around the dowel but not rub on the eges of the hole. pushed the sandpaper down with the 3/8 pipe and twist for a bit. pulled out the pipe, and fished out the sandpaper with some thin wire and blow it all out. got a lot of carbon out that way. also when i pulled the injector the o-ring was not seated to the injector all the way. which kinda makes sence now because the #7 always seemed to not go down as far as the other injectors. so cleaned out and added 2 new brass o-rings. ran the truck and its all good. no hot injectors andthe truck is running rather well.
