I have a 1996 F150 with the 5.0 and a 5spd. I'm going to be replacing the oil pan within the next couple of weeks, and I was wondering with there's anything else I should check out. This is my first time working on a 5.0, so I don't know of any specific weak spots.
I have a bunch of pin holes in the pan. I'm geting tired of leaking oil and plugging the holes. I might as well just put the new pan in.
Wouldn't hurt to pull your pickup tube and clean it good while you're in there.....I'm sure I'll catch flak for this but if it were me I'd put a new Melling High flow oil pump in it as well....just a little PM....obviously new gasket and check your rear and front main seals to see if they're leaking....pay attention to your manual when you do this...I pulled my pan completely with the upper intake on but it makes it alot easier when you jack up the engine...Pull the upper intake.....take the motor mounts loose as well as the tranny mount...should give you more than enough room....and I'm jealous of your 5 spd.....Luck and hope this helps.
What gain would I get from a high flow pump? I'm a college student on a college budget, if I'm going to spend money it needs to be worth it.
I love that I found this truck as a manual. I went to an auto auction and this was the first vehicle I saw, I looked it over and I knew I wanted it when I saw the shifter. 4x4 2"bl 33x12.5 AT's some body rot I'll tend to when it's warmer.
Short box reg cab, exactly what I wanted, I don't need a huge truck.
If not the Melling put in a stock oil pump. The pumps aren't that much and the big cost is usually the labor. I put 220k on a 5.0 on my 83. It was still running good when junked for rust.

Like Rikard said....if not the High flow just egt a stock flow....Only reason i do it is I like good pressure in my oil system........and it tends to push the oil through a bit faster.....
