Hi, Have a 1st gen explorer (91-94) jbl system. 4speakers, subwoofer and amp. My ? is. The amp in truck is powering the 4 speakers and sub. I found another 1st gen amp...Could I splice in second amp so first runs speakers and second runs subwoofer?
I'm sure you could but I would be concerend with a few things.
1st would be the extra power draw from the 2nd amp. The wiring is pretty small and it might be just enough extra draw to be an issue.
2nd would be the input signal from the deck, you would be splitting this signal so it would be weaker and you might have a loss in quality.
3rd would be the impedence of the speakers. The amps were designed to see a certin impedence, pulling from one and using half of another might creat some issues. It might cause the amps to run hot and shut off / melt down
Sounds possible, but if the stock amp is running 6 speaker and at least 4 channels you may have impedance problems. Either the rear channels are in parallel or series to the subs. Cutting them out could either double or half their impedance. I don't know how they are set up or if the stock amp has five or more channels so take my post as concerns rather than gospel.
