It seems that every two weeks or so, I am cleaning connectors, removing water, and replacing bulbs on my 2000 F350 dually running lamps ( 5 across the top of the cab and 4 on the fenders ). Is there a better solution?
Currently I am using an electronic contact cleaner and lubing the o-ring with dielectic grease. Any suggestions?
I have though about seeing if aftermarket LED are availible, but I am concerned that I will still have the same connector problems. Can anyone recommend an aftermarket LED solution?
I am not sure... but you might want to try out getting a set of replacement LED's from Recon. They make them all for your truck. They have great customer service too!
I do have the rubber gasket between the vechicle wiring harness and the bulb adapter. The bulb adapter does have an o-ring where it goes into the lense. The gasket between the lense and body panel is shot, and not availible.
Question: How do you guys make up electrical connections? I tend to use contact cleaner and just plug. I have between told to put dielectric gease in the connector and/or use WD-40.
Dielectric grease works good for preventing corrosion, and WD-40 is great for displacing water. You could clean the connections on both the light and the socket real good then install the bulb and seal the perimeter where the bulb meets the socket with some silicone. It would prevent any moisture that gets past the outer o-ring seal from migrating into the socket and compromising the connection with the bulb.
Any idea where the water is coming from? Are the gaskets between the body and the lenses in good shape? Knock on wood, but I've yet to replace a bulb in my '01 which I've had for a 1 1/2 years. I think tracking down the water source will be the cure for the problem.
