I am looking at doing a cummins swap in my 73. My question is with modifications would I be able to put a dodge Torque Flite A727 automatic transmission behind the 6bt engine in my truck. My truck is a 2wd and i have read the problems I will have with fit for the engine, but not sure about this trans. If anyone has any thought let me know. Thanks
They used the 727's in the early Cummins equipped Dodges so you should be able to find bellhousing/ flywheel housing parts to bolt it up. But the diesel 727's were not without their problems, mostly related to torque converters and valve body issues I believe.
The GM Turbo 400 was used in many delivery truck applications with the 4BT and could also be used. From what I've read, the 400 is the strongest 3 speed auto to use behind the Cummins.
Fordcummins.com offers an adaptor plate to use a C6 and torque converter behind behind the 12V (not sure which bellhousing patterns are covered). If you currently have a C6, it may be worth it to contact them. They have a lot of experience with these swaps and may be able to help you.
