I have just gotten a 400 and I'm trying to figure out
what I have. It's a 71 block,crank,pistons ect.
I've heard that the block deck can vary? Is there a
general guide to go by? Is the deck 10.302 or something
else. I'm going to change pistons so I need to know
if it varies
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 26-Jul-02 AT 09:50 PM (EST)]i believe the deck height is the same between the 351m and the 400. it's 10.297 to my understanding. check out dynagear for the pistons
Yes the deck height of the 400/351M is 10.297 and don't let anyone tell you differant..that's how I got boned on my first Stroker motor. The guys that made my first set of pistons thought the deck height was 10.200 and the compression height was wrong.
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 18-Aug-02 AT 00:58 AM (EST)]sheesh! between that and the rod length, there seems to be a lot of mis-information going on out there!
how much can be safely cut off the deck? - like could you cut it down to 10.250?
If you want to know more about the engine check out one of the tech articles on this site:
