Service Light Came On, Engine Started Missing, No Codes
Driving at about 60 mph the Service Engine light came on, and the engine started missing. I have a Diablo Sport Turner, and I tried pulling the trouble codes with it, but it said there were no codes found. I also noticed a little gray smoke that I don't think was there before. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.
Gray smoke=fuel.
The Diablo will be able to determine which cylinder is cutting out under the "Diagnostics" section.
Choose "live data"
Then "diesel fuel"
Choose "show all"
Then log it if you want, but that's another topic.
Once it starts monitoring, scroll all the way down to the bottom and you will see all eight cylinders listed from 1 to 8.
The one that has the highest percentage of rpm loss is the bad cylinder.
My thoughts is that one of them failed internally without losing the solinoid on the top of the injector.
If what I am suggesting is true, replace that one injector minimum.
All eight with new Alliants if you can afford it, VERY WELL worth the extra expense for the better driveability and even firing vs a set of rebuilts.
There should be codes stored.. Since you have the diablo sport tuner, there should be a code like P1211 which is normal for a tuner installed.. Also, your SES being on, should show a code.. Maybe you have problems with your tuner.. My 99 did the same thing, missed and SES last year and it was the 9 pin connector under the valve cover was just loose..(got a P1316 code)..
Dan.. could he disconnect say his EBP sensor and run the engine.. he should get a Po478 as a test of his tuner scanner, right ??
