I am a little aphrehensive about buying a new 08. I am looking at two different XL crewcabs, one Job 1, and one Job 3. I have three concerns. First is there any mechanical differences between the two? I know about reverse cameras and things of that nature, but I am talking about engine and driveline. Second should I be concerned about what a short run this engine will have with Ford coming out with their own in 2010, or so I have read. Thirdly is this DPF nonsense an issue or a nonissue.
I wouldn't worry about a thing. Sure there are some that have a few issues. But for the most part we love these trucks. Just be ready for the fuel mileage. I am not very familiar with the differences in Job trucks but I think it is very minor. The drivetrain is all the same except for I think there is a 3.55 option now. The 6.4 is new but seems to be a real solid engine. It really does not matter how long they use it. What matters is will it stand up to and surpass the 7.3 as a super strong, very reliable engine. I think it will. As far as the DPF goes, I'm not sure exactly what you are asking but it seems to work as it is suposed to. But it is a power/MPG robber. There are delete kits out there that I have heard work well in improving power and/or mileage. But even with the DPF these things haul ***. I live at over 5kft. elevation and frequently drive the passes out here at over 10kft. and the thing still has awsome power. I can pass just about any car over these passes. At sea level I can only imagine how powerful these things feel. BUY ONE!!!
I myself am strongly considering a new 6.4. I'm just not sure if I'm willin to give up the good ole 7.3 with only 60k on it. Swanee I'm not tryin to hi jack the thread but guys who have the 6.4 any opinons? What do you/ don't you like bout your trucks.
go for it. yull love it. best riding, towing, and most powerful truck ive ever owned. ive had a 7.3, 6.0, and a cummins. this truck kills them all! as far as fuel millage, im gettin about 10 in town and 17 on the highway
In answer to your question... The difference from what we can see in the Build your own truck section of the Ford site is in options and some change on Diff ratio'
The SPF issue is not nonsense..If the SPF is working correctly there is no problem..if it is defective it can effect the all over performance of the truck.Don't understand Why folks insist on comparing with the 6.0 or the 7.3. The 6.4 is a different truck..it will not compare with the others..If you have a 7.3 or a 6.0 that you are happy with...hang on to it..If you want a new truck..the 6.4 will serve you well..if you do not compare..
I'm not too worried bout the gas mileage. I've never owned anything but 8 cylinder mustangs and v 8 ford pick ups. Gas mileage don't scare me. I'm just worried that maybe I'll regret giving up my 7.3. I'm goin to check out some new trucks today, maybe get myslef a test drive. How hard is it to get one 6 speed??
If I had it to do all over again and my 7.3 was still strong, I'd waited to see what new Powerstroke will be in a few years. I like my '08 F-350 Lariat but courious about whats to come.
I think that once you drive a new one and feel how comfortable, quiet and powerful these trucks are, you'll be sold. It's amazing what you get used to in your old one. I've had mine for three weeks now and i can't believe i waited so long to buy one. I really like this truck.
dealer here has 3 '08's on the lot. One is an F250 supercab 8' bed Lariat 6.4 6 speed manual. A friend of mine test drove it, and I got to go for a spin, pretty sweet, but no thanks.
