Starting Problems - Help !!!!

I'm having a problem with my 2000 Ford Ranger (4.0 V6). Sometimes it starts up (just like a new truck) and once in a while it starts but dies right away. I replaced the IAC valve and it started good for 5 days. Yea-I fixed it, I thought. Then on the 6th day I was back to the same old problem. I have a scanner that checks for codes and also downloads the sensor data from the PCM. No codes where stored or pending. I live in So. Cal. and when it was hot 2 weeks ago it ran good. Now were having some rainy weather, and it's acting up again. Sounds crazy. I hope someone has an answer or is having the same problem.

Thanks,

Ralph.......................

yes , It runs for about 3 seconds at a rough idle then shuts off. This morning (02/25/08) it started up like a new truck. I stopped to pickup Breakfast and it started up and ran all the way to work with no problem. I't got to be something easy, but i'm hoping it's not a short in the wire harness. I used to smell a wire burning oder when I drove about 40 miles straight on the freeway, but that stopped after they put that fused jumper on for the cruise control recall. Hmmmm - almost about the time this all started. I removed the jumper and ran the truck for a day but it did it again, so i reconnected it. I hate to get rid of the truck. It only has 52,000 miles on it and it passes smog with flying colors.
