Does anybody know if the speedometer and odometer are run off the same sensor? ('03 F250 16" rims all stock wheels & tires)
The reason that I ask is; based on my new GPS, my speedo is off by 3mph @ 60mph. Can I assume that if my speedo is low by, say 5%, my total vehicle mileage would be off by the same ratio?
It's all about rotation. One rotation of a bigger tire will go farther than a smaller tire. Your gas mileage will calculate worse than acutal, due to the bigger tire. The speedo will show that you are going slower that you actually are.
What I want to know is if the two components (odo/speedo) are both controlled by the same sensor.
I believe the speedo and odo do use the same sensor along with the anti-locks, it is located at the top of the rear diff housing and uses the tone ring fixed to the diff.
