Oil system technical question...

I am still working out the details of the integrated install of the ESP luber and Oilguard bypass filter. Details are in the post linked below.

https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/7...d-install.html

I had contacted Oilguard about the thread size for the fittings on the head unit since it comes with 90* elbows and I think I'll need either 45* or straight fittings to minimize bends in the hose and preclude any chance of kinking. They were familiar with my post and plans and one of the techs had expressed concerns about reverse flow through the full flow oil filter. He suggested using a different point for supplying oil from the ESP luber to the engine, either the oil pressure test port or oil pressure sending unit port. His reasoning was that the structural design and integrity of the full flow filter may not be able to handle reverse flow. Another concern of his was that any contamination that had been captured by the filter would be returned into suspension in the oil. In our discussion of this I asked where the captured contamination would go besides back to the oil pan. I told him that my thinking is that no matter where oil is supplied to the engine it will pressurize the system so point of entry is not really a factor unless there were a check valve downstream of the filter. If there were a discharge check valve then obviously that would be the point to supply oil to. I also told him that a bigger concern for me was to supply clean oil to the engine which is why I will use a 5 micron hydraulic filter on the ESP luber pump discharge.

I decided to look into this a little deeper so of course I turned to the 6.0 bible.

http://www.backglass.org/duncan/ps60_manual/ps60_025.jpg

In the linked page it shows the anti-drain back check valve which functions to keep oil in the oil filter when the engine is not running. This valve is on the "dirty" side of the full flow filter. Once filtered, it looks like the oil flows directly to the lubricated components of the engine and the turbo. I see no check valve on the "clean" side of the filter. Now I realize that there might be some small amount of back flow through the full flow filter up to the point where the inlet side of the filter equalizes pressure with the outlet side but since oil is a non-compressable fluid I don't think it will be significant. I think that I will be fine with my plans for the integrated installation of both systems. The only possible concern is if the anti-drain back valve will hold up to the pressure supplied by the ESP luber pump.

So here is the question for those techs who have experience with the 6.0 PSD:

Would this check valve keep the oil supplied by the ESP luber pump from back flowing the full flow filter?

As always any input is welcome and appreciated. Thanks guys.

I'll throw a rock at it although I have never seen this installed on the 6.0L engine. The lube pump is to supply oil at the location of the sending unit. Yes the system does have a test port. The anti drain valve is located between the low pressure pump and filter housing. The only direction for the oil to travel is into the 4 passages that exit the filter housing. You can add a billet filter cap and dump directly into the filter housing.
