I just bought a 04 fx4 with a v10 and like it so far is there anything i need to watch for. I had a deisel 6.0 and the price of fuel is about 40cents different.
The only thing that comes to mind is watch for snapped off exhaust manifold bolts. Other than that just regular maint. items. Change plugs every 50k miles, change fuel filter every 10k miles or so, clean MAF sensor once a year, keep clean air filters in it and change the oil and filter on a reg basis. Use Motorcraft Fl-820s oil filters. MC oil is good too.
man i think u made a mistake getting rid of uer diesel my buddy has 04 cc sb v10 with airaid intake ,tb spacer flowmaster exhuast and he said if hes lucky he gets 13 mpg also has 285 tires.
Well around here it is 55 cents more for diesel. So at that cost here is the break down on 15000 miles per year.
Gas: 11 MPG Mixed Driving is my avg on V10
15000 / 11 = 1363.64 x $3.00 = $4090.92 per year
Diesel: 16.5 MPG Mixed Driving is my buddy's 6.0 avg.
15000 / 16.5 = 909.10 x $3.55 = $3227.31 per year
That is only a savings of $863.61 per year.
So at an average of $5000 up charge for a diesel motor you will have to drive your truck 86700 miles to get an even ROI. That is equivalent 5.78 years driving 15000 per year at that time you could have the truck paid off then. Assuming you paid cash for the truck or 0% financing.
Most are not like this so...
Gas Truck cost $33000 (total cost) with a 6 year loan @ 6.9% will be $561.03 a month - total interest paid $7394.54. Making it a $40394.54 truck
Diesel Truck cost $38000 (total cost) with a 6 year loan @ 6.9% will be $646.04 a month - total interest paid $8514.83. Making it a $46514.83 truck.
So that would be a up charge of $6120.29
So on an up charge for a diesel motor of $6120.29 real world you will have to drive your truck 106200 miles to get an even ROI. That is equivalent to 7.08 years driving 15000 per year at that time you WOULD have the truck paid off before you ROI evened out.
Forget that, that does not even price in oil change differences.
Also note that at $85.01 payment savings per month will equal $1020.12 per yer and that will cover the cost of gas which was $863.61 per year more for the Gas engine.
So that is a savings of $939.06 in gas over the life of a 6 year loan for the gasoline truck.

AMEN Big Orn...people just like to feel their fingers type...or maybe they should stick their fingers someplace useful!
We have a....method he can try here in Texas: The Dead Cow and Vet School . . .
First-year students at Texas A&M's Vet school were receiving their first anatomy class, with a real dead cow.
They all gathered around the surgery table with the body covered with a white sheet. The professor started the class by telling them, "In Veterinary Medicine it is necessary to have two important qualities as a doctor: The first is that you not be disgusted by anything involving the animal body." For an example, the Professor pulled back the sheet, stuck his finger in the butt of the dead cow, withdrew it and stuck his finger in his mouth.
"Go ahead and do the same thing," he told his students. The students freaked out, hesitated for several minutes, but eventually took turns sticking finger in the **** opening of the dead cow and sucking on it.
When every one finished, the Professor looked at them and said, "The second most important quality is observation. I stuck in my middle finger and sucked on my index finger."
"Now learn to pay attention," he said, "Life's tough, it's even tougher if you're stupid."
