Did you know that a pet kitty can provide some protection against heart attack or stroke?

This new study found that cat owners may be less likely to die from heart attack, stroke or other types of cardiovascular disease. Researchers in Minnesota analyzed the health information of 4,500 participants in the second National Health and Nutrition Examination Study. They found that, over a 20-year period, those participants who had never owned a cat had a 40 per cent greater risk of death due to heart attack and a 30 per cent higher risk of death to due to any sort of cardiovascular disease than current cat owners or those who had previously owned a cat. The researchers said they adjusted their results for differences in age, blood pressure, smoking status, diabetes, cholesterol levels and body mass. The researchers conclude that "cats as pets may aid in reducing the risk of heart attack, stroke, and other cardiovascular diseases.

A commercial airliner carrying 46 people went missing in a mountainous region of Venezuela on Thursday, and local media were reporting the plane had crashed. Officials would only confirm that the plane was unaccounted for in the western Merida state, in the Andes mountains. The plane vanished as it flew from Merida city to the airport in Caracas, the Venezuelan capital, and did not make contact with the control towers. Local television stations reported the plane crashed in the mountains, but has not been seen nor heard of since the vanished.
