Hi everyone. Got my new diff. last night, came complete with disc. brakes out of an Exploder. Just wanting to know what everyone has been using for a master cylinder with this set up. The fronts are also disc. I have read different thing on bleed back valves if master is located under cab. I am leaving master under cab to keep firewall clean. What is everyone else using?
My 56s all have the stock setup under the floor. I am upset that the one truck leaks down when sitting and everything is new on the brake system. I may go to a dual diaphram set up like on my 71 next. I cannot believe the problems with the 56 big truck brakes compared to the 71.......Bill
I find myself with a failed master cylinder, truck was left sitting for a few months and when I pulled out of the garage, brake pedal went to the floor. Grabbed the e-brake
and stopped before I ended up rolling out into the street. Everything is stock, so now
is the time to decide which way to go. I found an old/never used front disk setup, need to replace lines and master, rebuild rears just for satisfaction of knowing it was done. I am split between keeping things pretty stock and going full on with a new Fatman frame, IRS and all the other goodies it would bring. Just swap the cab over and drop in a small block ford v8....kinda want to keep the 3 on the tree...its nostalgic fun!
You can use any kind of master cylinder you like, as long as it's a disc/disc master cylinder and the bolt pattern matches the booster you will be using.
In that respect, it is often easiest to buy a booster and master as a complete and matched set.
Get at least a 8 inch dual diaphragm booster.
For 4 wheel disc set-up with the master mounted on the frame, you will require a 2lb residual valve in both the front and rear brake lines.
