over fueling engine?
over fueling engine?
i have a 1987 f250 6.9 with an ats turbo kit, 4" exhaust, and the fuel screw turned all the way up. i didn't plan on having it all the way out but after ive kept turning it out to try to make power thats just where i stoped messing with it. the truck runs good but today i was driving and it started to run out of diesel but shortly before it did it ran normal until it spooled up and then it pulled vary strong and ran excellent. could this be because im always "flooding my engine" and when it was running out of diesel it was getting less fuel and ran more efficent? or am i crazy? also does any body have a ballpark of how many turns in or out is a good starting point for the fuel screw? the truck bellows smoke but doesn't make much power and i want it the other way around! thanks
That wonderful surge of power you get just before you run out of fuel is normal. Unfortunately, there's no free lunch, and it doesn't mean that you can turn a screw or mix air with the fuel or whatever and get more power. OK, how many of us have had that same thought
It does sound like you're over-fueling for the amount of air the engine is getting. Either the fuel is already turned up too much or you need to improve the air flow in and out of the engine. Black smoke is just wasted fuel (but cool for some people). Just lifting your right foot slightly will have the same effect as turning the fuel down.
Did you upgrade the downpipe whith the rest of the exhaust? Are you still using the stock intake plumbing?
Is your air cleaner really clean???
