So I have this 89 f150. I have an older 302 in it. Had an after market dist. (points & coil) I needed to do some timing on it and after loosening the lock the dist wouldnt turn. So tapped it with the handle of a screwdriver, nothing. Got a bigger tool, hammer, nothing. Decided to pull the dist. Of course it wouldnt budge. Put a screwdriver blade between the bolck and the housingcame up about 1/4 inch. Long story short, I broke the housing and got out everything except the shaft, and it aint moving. The shaft turns when I rotate the motor and the camshaft gears are meshed. I dropped the pan and the oil pump is out. Anyone run into something like this??

That sucks, haven't been in that same situation but like that. If you got the oil pump out hopefully you can tap the shaft out from the bottom. Good luck. Take lots of breaks so you don't get frustrated. Take your time. And again good luck.

like dirt racer said, tap the shaft from the bottom, it might help if you rotate the engine backwards while doing it?? (or forwards, i am not sure which way would push up on the gear/shaft) Is your engine gummed up with alot of crud? I find with motors that are, things that should come out are stuck fast with crap. You might have to get creative with shooting some carb cleaner onto the affected parts and keep working it.

Well thats about where i am with tapping from the bottom. The engine is pretty clean inside since it was rebuilt a short time ago. Of course the neighbor that rebuilt it was drunk at the time. Thanks guys.
