Ok one more question for the techs out there. Do you mind if I come up an visit with you about my trucks problem. Or shall I just let the service manager handle it. my philosophy is talk to the guy working on your truck an tell him yourself everything you know. Get to know him an let him know who you are. Hey I wanna do the right thing. I dont want to waste anybodies time.. I really appreciate all the techs out there. You have to deal with customers, service manager an the dealership owner as weall as the manufacturer. The tech i know are hardworking people that aim to plese.
Heres one to think about..........The time to replace the egr cooler hose on a 6.0. Originally, Ford paid you to remove the turbo to gain access to the hose. There is a thing called an EDSR. That is where you inform Ford of a better way to do a job, and they send you $50. Some young kid sent an EDSR, now it pays 1 hour.
ok that bums me out that u guys can find em..but anywho anyone around the Monroe Michigan area know of a Mod. friendly dealer or someone who wont care if i take the DPF off and tune it but replace it all back to stock b4 givin it to them 4 service...its prob a stupid ? and im pretty sure the answer will be no...but figured id try
wow that hardly seems fair for you techs too me, got a question what kind of markings if at all would a fueling box make? or codes would it trip? would it just show higher exhaust readings? and what could/would they say about an aftermarket magnaflow exhaust with cat delete? would they deni you warranty for any all of these ? im all for being upfront but it only takes one tech like demolition got to vote you out of warranty, lets face it the 6.0s have lifted as many HG's with mods as without.
Koboss and badford....were you even paying attention, or is it you dont care? You modify your truck, and something happens to it possibly from your mods....PAY FOR IT! But you still want me to bear the cost for you.....thanks!
got ya vloney, pay for it! Just asking a question that perhaps other people might be interested in hearing an answer from a master tech.
please dont take it the wrong way, im not stealing your lunch, just curious.
i under stand vloney, just askin a ? i know about the warrany cuz by the way it sounds ford doenst like you putting DPF back exaust on, cuz i have it on mine and they were sayin at the dealer ford told them that might by why the soots in my pipes..

Friendly ford in monroe are pretty good guys, but I think your going to have a hard time with any dealership allowing you to remove the DPF. If you have a dealership telling you that you have soot in your pipes because of a after DPF exhaust system THEY ARE FULL OF CRAP. Post DPF will have ZERO to do with the ability for soot to get past the DPF. The only thing the OE DPF back exhaust does is vacuum in ambient air to cool exhaust gasses during regeneration cycles. I design DPF's DOC's and converters every day and I can ensure you that they dont understand how the exhaust on the 6.4L works if they are telling you that.
I can ensure everyone that has soot in your tailpipe it is because the DPF is cracked, moved, or the mat mount is gone.
thank you very much Barry1me that is what i tired tellin them and they kept sayin that they donno why theres soot...and they told me that ford said it could be because of my exaust...they even told me i had a DPF flow restriction, and put a new air filter in and reflashed and called it good...so wtf what did the air filter and reflash have to do with the DPF flow restriction?

If you went to monroe and they said this im sorry to hear about it. I have mixed feelings about those guys there....another story. Sad part about this is Ford can do whatever they want to do. What I would suggest is put your OE exhaust back on and if you still have soot in your tailpipe you have....a broken DPF substrate or the mat that holds the dpf is gone.
Barry, I have had sooty tailpipes from day 1 AND my truck seems to be getting a little better MPG than the average. 14 cityish, and up to 19 hywy. Is it possible that my DPF is broken and is creating less of a restriction and giving me a bit better MPG??
Ok, the short of it is...... always have a good relationship with your tech. He can be your best ally, or your worst nightmare.
It would be nice if one could talk to their tech not just a service writer, my dealer does not let us talk to the techs the writer takes all the info and passes it along, and if you say you have a mod it is automatic void of warranty the thech never hears it just sees that you a paying for the repair not the warranty.

The deffinition of sooty pipes would be just like a truck without a DPF. Complete black inside the pipes. If your dpf is broken this would cause less restriction and inturn could possibly give you better fuel economy.
