Do you guys use these? They require special safety concerns but we have pulled some crazy stuck things out over the years. On the big stuff, we have a few lengths of 7/8 cable made up with the braided eyes. I dont remember what the cable rigging place said the capacity was but Brutus (our 465 hp CaseIH 9390 that weighs over 45000 pounds) will never break it!
We have a heavy tow strap, but we also have a 4 inch tie down strap which I am impressed by.
It is very handy to put away rools up nice. It held up when pulling my 1975 F150 out of a snow filled ditch. Another reason why it is better then a conventional strap is when it does tear. you just shorten it by cutting off the ripped part and reattach the hook.
Heh you should see what i use as a tow strap right now. Some tiny thing I bought at princess auto awhile back. It has pulled the civic out of the ditch though!
I have a nice cable from one of our winches on our rigs from work, I just dont have eyes on it yet.
At work we dont use anything but some heavy duty tow straps and I havent broken one yet. And we have used them up in Wabasca in the summer, where the mud is insanely deep!
I don't have a tow rope but if I wanted one I'd get one from the guy in Girvin. He custom makes them and you can get them from like 1" to 6" in diameter and any length you want. The big ones will pull a big 4wd tractor with air seeder out.
Never use the ones hooks on the ends they are killers.Know of a fellow near home that was killed by the hook Broke or tor out and came though the back window of his 4x4 and lodge in his head.Never had a chance. Use the straps with loops and use a clevis if possible. Also if their is a concern of it comin off though a jacket in the center of the strap. It will absorb the strap or chain causing it to role up in a jacket or blanket.
