Hello all! Newbie here. stock 1997 7.3L PSD w/249,000, just purchased. I have disconnected the EBPV, thanks to the help of these forums, and am doing a DIY intake next, then a chip. But I won't be pulling more than 12K 15 times or so a year. What would I, if anything, do to the exhaust? I've been told the DP should be changed, but (keeping in mind, I'm new here,) will it shorten the life of the turbo(already Old)?
Thanks in advance for help!
Open exhaust = more power (and more turbo whistle ) The stock DP is pretty restrictive and somewhat of a pain to change but worth it from what I've read. DP is pretty affordable to do, under $300, then do a cat delete and you'll have a sweet setup. Also look into the 6637 air cleaner mod, really opens up the fresh air side.
no, it will LENGTHEN life of turbo, and engine due to low emissions. and, it will help fuel economy
Bear with me, I knew nothing about diesels accept that they sounded cool, until a month ago. How would a bigger DP help the turbo? Are you saying, less restriction less load or pressure ( I don't know the right word) on the turbo, so happy turbo?
local performance shop. they are always cheap. price match if possible if you find something cheaper. pm me if u need contact info. but yes, the less restriction the better. and it sounds wayyyy better. also, remove the catalatic convertor (or have it done.)
$300!!!!!?????? i got mine for $150! and it had the place in it to put my pyro, drilled, threded, and a bolt to plug it up.
I said under $300! I thought the Tymar was about $240 which seems to be one of the better ones out there. If I'm wrong, then that means it will be easier for me to "accidentally" acquire one for my future PSD!

Think of the down pipe as a funnel. Everthing is trying to go through the bottom of that restricted funnel and everything is getting backed up. You open up the bottom of the fonnel, say 4-6 times greater and the back up decreases and everything starts flowing and the turbo is so happy you can now hear the fat lady sing.
