Just curious, I parted out a '91 F-150 4x4 for a friend.(his dad hit a parked car @ 50mph, it was a mess!) When I got to the rearend I noticed it has 2 wires coming out of it. Is this for some sort of electrically actuated locker? I do know it's an 8.8 and the axle tag says 3L55. From what I understand this means it has 3:55 gears and the L is for locker. I just thought it meant it had a Trackloc unit... If it is what I think it is, how's it actuated? I didn't see a switch anywhere. Thanx!
Those other functions being speed signals to the computer for adjustments based on speed.
If you have a manual trans, the computer will adjust timing and idle air based on speed and clutch position.
If it's an auto, it'll adjust the same kind of thing (like being in drive but stopped) with idle/timing but if it's a computer controlled transmission it'll use the speed to determine shift points.
No locker for you...but a traction lok is there according to the tag. That is a clutch-type limited slip unit.
