Well after 220,000 the engine finally gave it up. (i bought it with 110,000 hard miles and put the rest on it) Ive heard ford romoves the cab to change the engine, is this true? Im very mechancly inclined and am not afraid of doing this. Im just looking to do it the easest way possable!! Any suggestions would be welcome. And what is the newest year i can put in it?
Anyway, I don't know how Ford gets the V10s out, but it wouldn't surprise me if they removed the cab. These trucks don't look to be particularly simple to do an engine swap on. However my friend with a '98 F-150 (similar setup) did his engine swap just by removing the hood, bumper, radiator, etc. So I suspect you could do it the same on the V10. Removing the cab may be easier in a dealership with dealership tools (like a lift), but I doubt you have those available to you.
My question, though, is if it's really worth putting another engine in this truck at 220k, or if you might be better off just buying another one (say with 110k or whatnot) and selling this or keeping it as a parts truck? Seems like a lot of work at that mileage, and I would have to question whether it's really worth putting another engine in or just getting another truck instead. I know if I was at that mileage and my engine blew, I would just dump the truck and get another. But maybe I'm just lazy.
from what i could tell it was low on coolant. when i opened the hood i had no steam or high heat. what clued me in was it lost alot of power(cylinders shuting down?) I pulled over right away but it was to late. Ive thought about dumpimg the truck but there is nothing else wrong with it. straight body, strong tranny. a new enginge from ford is 3000 and a used one with 110,000 is 2000. just starting my reshearch.
wow thats nice to hear. Then why are people on ebay selling used medium mileage engines for close to 4 grand? I bought my 99 F350 v10 Xlt Ext Cab DRW 5-speed for that a year ago. I got it for a steal but still.
