Edge tuner

OK guys. I have done alot of searching. I have read that the edge tuner is not really favored around here over DP and other tunes. What do you guys think about buying a truck with an edge on it pulling it and then going with a dp tune. Most of the trucks that i can find the guy puts an edge on it thinking that its the best product for their trucks. (edge and banks). I found one in particular an 02 with 94,000 on it. It still has the ext warranty. I have test driven this truck twice and really like it. Everything about it is perfect minus the edge. It has the edge juice with attitude monitor. would it be wise to buy this truck? i will be pulling the edge in favor of dp and would like to know if i could take it into ford to have the tranny serviced. If i tell them that its slipping or something will they take a look at it. What do you guys think.

There are a lot of guys running the edge tuner because of the monitor. I prefer gauges and DP-TUNER. Does the truck have an after market exhaust and intake? Look the truck over very good, and ask why he is selling it. The edge is known to tear up the trans in some cases.

it does have an after market exhaust. no intake though. he is selling becuase he bought an 08. it is an older guy selling it.the truck was kept very clean. the guy must have been very meticulous about keeping it clean because the paint looks like it just came off the car lot. itss got less rock chips than my 07 ranger. the leather looks like no one ever even sat in it. i know about the edge causing trans problems. thats what i am sking about. it has the $0 deductible 6 months and 6000 miles left on the powertrain waranty. could i take it into ford and have the tarns serviced. or should i try to break it before the warranty is up. what usually goes bad on the trans with a tuner. if i can get the trans redone under warranty and then install a valve body on how long can my trans last with a dp tuner. i would like to holdoff on getting a bts trans for as long as i can.

I take it the trans is slipping now. If it is, it will only get worst. The bans are slipping and causing heat. How hot does the trans get? What boost are you running? What are your EGTs?

no the trans does not slip at all. it shifts very strong. i shifted it manually through 1-2-and D and then just put it in 4 and let it shift itself. both ways felt very smooth and made no noises. i was just saying i would tell the ford tech its slipping and have em inspect the trans before the warranty is up to give me a piece of mind. i did a check of everything on the truck. crawled under and checked for leaks in the areas that would normally leak. trans, rear main, and rear diff. checked all bushings, has normal even tire wear. no noises 4x4 engages properly, ran it in 4 high and 4 low. there wasnt a single thing i could find wrong with the truck minus the edge. im not looking so much for power but im looking for reliability.

Sounds like a very good truck. If there is nothing with the trans I don't know if I would let the dealer do anything with it. I would pull the edge stuff off, put a good set of gauges, pyro, trans, boost. Then do the 6637 mod, then BTS-VB, then DP-TUNER.

I would also go to the 7.3 fourm and read all the good stuff there. Those guys really know the 7.3.

yeh the edge will be coming off. i have done alot of research on the 7.3 and the mods i can do. im already thinking about going with the foil delete, zoodad mod, wastegate mod, later down the road the wicked wheel, 05 grill and headlights, an 08 tailgate. and 5 in mrbp exhaust.

lol, Sounds like you have a case of PMS. It only gets worse.

When my trans goes out, I will head to BTS and get mine done the right way.
I have 117,000 miles on my truck and my trans is doing great right now.

Some people look for a long time to try and find the perfect truck. If the truck is in good condition, buy it and don't look back. You can't go wrong with the 7.3.

here is a pic of the truck and how clean the interior is... im gonna go sometime this week and try to talk the guy down to a price that i like.

what would be reasonable for a truck like this???KBB puts it at 20,070. i have never paid blue book for a vehicle whats a reasonable offer to come in with??? he has it listed for 24,000 which is him prolly trying to recoupe some of the mods done to it.

this is the description of the truck.
