57 Chevys
#31
NumberDummy, we may not agree on alot, but we do as far as 57 fords being fast, we do. The first car I remember us having was a 57 ford fairlane with the 312 thunder bird special, that car would fly. I know every car seems fast when your just a kid, but the motor still lives yet today in my uncles old 56 ford pulpwood truck. The truck just sets now, but even as a teenager I helped my uncle in the woods. That truck would bury the speedo at 90 mph with a load. Everyone I've mentioned our old 57 ford to would say, "yeah, I remember that old ford your dad had, that car would run like a scolded dog". The 312 out lasted the car, a 54 pulpwood truck and is still running in a 56 pulpwood truck, that we no longer use of course. It had a set of rings put into the motor in the mid 70's, thats the only thing ever done to that engine other than oil and tune up's. It has a holley 4 barrel, but didn't some of those 312's have 3 2-barre's or trips as they call it? I was thinking that some of the 312's in the T-bird could have been purchased with tri-power, I was thinking even a super charger was available for the 312. It's been a long time since I've given the old Y blocks any thought and my memory isn't as good as it once was hee hee. The one thing I do remember is that car was fast and would burn the tires. It was faster than a chevy small block in 57 as my dad tells me he stomped a few when I wasn't in the car with him.
