Shifting problems Help me!
I have read through the forums postings regarding the E40D transmission in my 1992 F250 excab 4x4 pickup with the non-turbo 7.3l diesel motor. Nothing I read has the exact symptoms as mine. After driving for 10 min the trans starts shifting in and out of Overdrive (common problem) After 15-20 min of driving constant, if you come to a stop and then start again you lose all the gears like it is in neutral no matter what gear you try to select. If you turn the truck off and then re-start it the trans works fine again for a very short time 2-5 min max. You can turn of and re-start it and it will always work again but only for a short time. Sound like something electrical to me.
Basically if anyone has any idea where to start checking that would be great.. Came up with a bunch of possible problems.
PSOM?
MLPS ?
Solinoid Pack?
Trans filter?
Anything else?
Thanks for your help in advance.
BTW The truck has 199k miles. I do not know the maintnence history, but by looking at the condition of the truck I would guess it has not been regularly serviced. Trans Fluid level is good and Trans Fluid looks new.
