Ranger is cutting out

Ranger is cutting out
When I'm driving my Ranger it cuts out for a split second and then it keeps on going. My mechanic ran a diagnostic and found nothing. It doesn't seem to matter if the engine is warm or cold. It seems to be happening when the outside temp is under 20 degrees.
It's an '03 4x4 with a 4.0, automatic with 66,000 miles on it.
Can anyone help?

My old ranger did the same thing. Went to 3 different dealers and spent over $1000 before one of them found the problem. There was water in the gas. Never showed up on any test or computer print out. Check your tank. Let us know. Good luck

maybe a loose connection
My '89/2.9l/v-6 was doing the same thing--I spent about 6 hrs. going thru the threads-learned a lot!!!! Start with the cheapest fix first!! I cranked up the '89 and started thumping on electrical connections--the main connector to the fuel injection caused the engine to stumble while idling--I barely wiggled it and the engine quit--the plastic locking tab that held the male/female connector together had dry-rotted and allowed the connector to lose contact EVEN THO EVERYTHING LOOKED O.K. I tie-wrapped the connector together-thumped it wiggled it-no more problems!! Hope your problem is easy to find!

Thanks for the tips. I appreciate the help. I added two bottles of dry-gas to a full tank of gas. If there is water in the tank, I hope that clears it up. Next I'll start checking the connections.
