I just bought a code reader today and used it for the first time.I got a code 628 and 652. Anybody have any thoughts on how to correct this problem? It's on a 94 f150 5.0. Thanks.
My code reader shows:
628-- O (Key Off Engine Off) and C (Continous memory) Excessive converter clutch slippage
652-- O (Key Off Engine Off) Transmission over temp condition.
From these codes, the first thing to do is change the fluid and filter. Make sure you drain the converter as well. There are some great posts on here that will give you instructions.
What transmission do you have? If it has not been changed, then your sticker on the door pillar will tell you.
I have a E4OD. I just bought the truck so I dont know the history. The trans fluid looks very clean but I'll change it this weekend. The od light is flashing and every once in a while it goes out of od when it shouldnt. How do you get the fluid cout of the torque converter? It also had a code 116. I changed the temp sensor and cleared the codes but still gives code 116.
116-- O (Key Off Engine Off) and R (Key on, engine running KOER) Engine coolant temperature higher or lower then expected.
I am not sure on the E4OD but there should be a small plug on the torque converter. Remove the inspection plate and have someone rotate the engine while you look for it.
With this new code, it sounds like the previous owner may have bypassed the trany cooler. Either that or it is plugged. Unless you have an aux. cooler, the trans. lines go into the bottom of the radiator. It is possible that this is plugged. Check your lines and make sure they are not cut or crimped.
