I'm looking at possibly buying a F250 CC 4x4 with a 6.4 and 6 speed. It will mainly be used as a family car and to pull a TT in the summertime. What kind of fuel mileage numbers can I expect around town and on the highway? What about pulling, say 8-10K lbs?
Thanks for any input,
Jason
I have a 2008 F-250 FX4 crew cab 4X4 with the 6.4 automatic and 3.73 gears. I get 14 mpg in the mixed city driving empty, about 18 MPG+ all highway empty, and right at 10 MPG pulling my 9k lb. 32' TT using the tow mode and going 65 MPH. I found a few things that really help fuel economy is stay at 65 MPH when towing, even going up 5 MPH to 70 drops my fuel economy down to 8 MPG. Keep the boost under 10 psi as much as possible and keep the tires inflated to 70 psi or so. I use Diesel Kleen cetane booster (not sure if it is needed) and drive with a light foot. Not many believe I get this fuel economy, and some on this board may outright call me a liar (again), but this is real life numbers after about 12k miles I have owned the truck.
BTW - fuel economy aside, I got this truck specifically for pulling my TT and it pulls like a beast! Get the towing package, it will change everything you know about towing with the tow/haul mode!
I would have to echo DD2000GT's comments. Almost exactly what im seeing with my F350 on average. on longer drives i can see 20 on the freeway at 65 mph if i reset the CPU and run for a while. we travel to northern MI a lot. We are very happy with our F350! Good luck to you.

Yes a 250 with a 6 speed with 3.73s gets about 2mpg better than the auto from what has been posted. Depends on the type of roads on how hilly you are at. You might average 18mpg under real good conditions and best 12 towing. if poor conditions 15mpg mty and 10 towing.
Thank you for the replies. I've been hearing an absolute best of 15 mpg on the highway, and down to 8-9 while towing. Makes me feel a little better about it.
Is there any common recurring issues with the new 6.4?

I take you mean other than frequent trips to the fuel station.
actually I seem to get better mileage than many but will not say exact #'s.
still waiting to hook up the toyhauler and see how it hauls. It is going to be better than the 1ton van I was using. sure has a ton of torque.
My 08 f350 super duty crew 4x2 was ordered with 4:30 gears with auto trans.
Milage is all over the place, as low a 6 and up to 12-12.5 towing. 39" 5th wheel about 13,500# Can't beat the handling or power, but cross country trips are costly.
Just got back from a trip burned 2.5 tanks of fuel. Keeping at the speed limit or just below on the way there as it was blowing snow and at night I reset the meter and drove 3/4 of the trip mostly all highway with a little bit of city and I was running at 18.9 mpg. The last 1/4 of the trip I pushed it up to 118 km/h which is about 73 mph the mileage dropped no reset to about 18.2mpg for the whole trip. So driving just a bit faster makes a huge difference to my mileage.
How much weight were you towing when you got these recults? And what type terrain?
I have run with cruise, no air and at or slightly below the posted speed and still cannot get over 12.5.
The second day I had this vehicle I went cross country to Montana and back, and barely averaged 11.2 .I was not pulling anything then and was not oaded heavily.
I wonder if the 4:10 gearing is an issue, and have considered dropping it to 4:10.Plan on mostly long tows cross country.
I listed that I am considering dropping to 4:10, as my truck has 4:30s
Seems the good milage guys are towing with 3:73, but wonder if I will loss alot of pulling power @3:73
