Its looking like I might need a new engine in my truck.
its a 73 f100 4x4. Its an offroad beast with some city driving. Currently has a blown 302 which was way too small for it anyway. I have 38 inch tires on it and use it mostly to romp off road. But I do use it for some city/freeway driving.
What engine would you guys recommend for this truck? Trying to keep my cost below 3k if possible. I love having that low gear that cant go faster than 5 mph but will crawl through anything!!!!
I would like to keep my cost down as much as possible, but would consider it none the less as I bought the truck knowing the engine and transmission were rebuild. The engine just blew a rod so, with that in mind, I would rather change out both as I dont really know good the tranny is. It shift fine, but who knows.
Might as well kill 2 birds with 1 stone.

Reason: update
Why not go with a 351w? That way you wont have to change your tranny. I actually have a 76 on 38's, and when i bought it it had a 351w and worked great.. there's alot of difference between that and a 302. You can even modify the 302 brackets and use your accessories.
If you are an automatic, and cost is an issue, I would look into finding a used 351W that has been stroked and had a few more other tricks turned. If your truck is a stickshift, swap it over to a BBF. You wont have to replace your trans, just find another belhousing and a few other widgets.
