Gear Shift Lever Needs Tightening

1995 Ford Ranger XLT 4x4 autoamtic

The gear shift lever, mounted on the steering column is real loose.<O:p</O:p
When it is in park, some times I have to push up on the lever to start the truck.<O:p</O:p

How can I tighten it up?<O:p</O:p

I am guessing some screw in the column need to removed to get at something

<O:p

I had it tightened about 5 yrs ago while it as in a shop for some other work..<O:p</O:p

I have the same problem on my 96 ranger same as yours.I am wondering how to fix it can anyone tell us what needs to be done.

remove plastic covers of steering column and titen it, but.... it may loose againe. Had to use Mannol thread lock.

ok.

I assume Thread Lock is like a glue that comes in a tube?

When you say
remove plastic covers of steering column...

Are there screws on the top and bottom of the column?

Yeah, look at them from underneath....

Not a big problem.
