Ok the manual hubs are stuck (or frozen)- I was able to get one side out and trying to unstick it. I will probably have to buy new ones. In the meantime- Can I drive the truck with one of the auto-hubs removed? It's late and I cannot put it back on and need to use it tomorrow. Is it going to damage anything?
i know they say you can rebuild, but i have yet to have a problem with my WARN's!
i had a friend that tried the rebuilding, and after 3 times into them, he said screw it!! he got WARN's too!!
they don't have the "auto" feature of the OEM's but i'd take reassurance over convience, plus if your smart you'll have them suckers locked BEFORE you enter a mud hole!!
First off, what year is your truck? Nobody makes a replacement aftermarket hub for the '05 and up Super Duty trucks.
'04 and earlier - no problem finding a good alternative.
My '05 hubs were froze because of lack of use from the previous owner and the easiest solution was to replace them - fortunately the dealer I purchased the truck from paid half the cost to replace with brand new OEM.
And I think you would want to put the hub back on anyway even if you don't have a new gasket and o-ring seal just so that you keep any extra dust, dirt, water etc. out of them even if just for one day.
Can I drive the truck with one of the auto-hubs removed?
Yes you can. I drove with one off for two days until I got a replacement.. The axle can hardly flop in there anyway because of it being so tight in the bearing assy.
I pulled my auto hubs last weekend and greased the way that Guzzle wrote up. They were working fine before, but I thought it would be a good maint. thing. They work great.
