Odd non-starting problem

Hi all, I have a
2002 Ranger
Standard/no frills [no PW/PDLocks/CC]
2-WD
A/T
2.3/16 valve

I've owned it about 3 wks - ran great. Yesterday I drove to Wal-Mart and bought bulbs to replace
2 - License bulbs
1 - 3rd brake light above rear window/exterior
1 - dome light [dome has no switch]

All new bulbs now working. Dome was last and as soon as I put bulb in, it lit fine, but didn't go out [door closed] for 7-8 min.
I opened door and it didn't come on. but 15 min later did come [when opening door] but again wouldnt go out for 5-10 min.
Came back later to move truck...won't start.
All usual dash lights come,"normal dings" are heard.

When I bought the truck, I had a spare made and was told that it would only open doors/not start, as it had no chip - I tried to start it anyway and that is the way it acts now when using the chipped key.

-All fuses show continuity
-Cleaned Battery terminals [Battery 4 months old]
-Battery tests 12.48 V w/Voltmeter
-No solonoid clicking
-Truck started twice earlier that day to go get bulbs and never has had starting issues [well, for 3 weeks and 100 starts]
-Headlights and all electricxal devices/lights/fan working

Any troubleshooting suggestions before I go have the key checked at a dealer [don't own a code checker and can't get the truck to a parts store right now]

Thanks for reading, Tony
