4x4 making noise, need help

Hey guys, I have a 98 xlt 4x4, offroad package 5.4 engine, dunno if that matters, also it is an auto. The truck is great makes no noises in 2wd, but as soon as i switch to 4x4 (its the electronic 4x4 if that matters) it starts making a growning sound, its hard to explain, its kind of a rumbling and it goes away as soon as the 4x4 is switched off. What can this be? My only thoughts were front axles or transfercase, anyone ever had the same problem? I kinda want to diagnose this before I break something or its breaks and breaks somehthing else. Ill try to get a video up this weekend but im not sure how well the camera will capture the sound. Thanks in advance

There is a heat shield by the front driveshaft(between transfercase and front differential) that may be rubbing. If it is that just take a prybar and bend it, that is what I did with mine.
