i found a truck for sale for 1,000 dollars earlier model than mine i think.
looks to be in good shape it has a dana rear end c-6 tranny. the body is totally straight. now my question? can you tell an fe engine from a non fe engine by looking at it? i know it's a v-8 under there (brain dead observation) i know that it is larger than a 302 (again brain dead observation the 302 is tiny compared)
the heads look like my 390. the size looks like a 360/390 block.
the spark plugs are angled just like my fe. but i can't find any vehicle id numbers on it. I started looking at the vin but the guy *not the owner his stoned firend* said dude the numbers don't always match on our car.
so basically is there a way to visually and easily id an fe from another motor?
i know that it has to be a 360/ 390 block. I'm not really worried about the exact internal displacement just what type of block it is.
this truck was bought from a border patrol auction. it was used for smuggling something.
this truck was bought by drug dealers to mule with. this truck is in the barrio and being sold by a drug dealer because the local cops have become too familiar with it.
basically if it is an fe 390 / 360 engine under the hood then i will be able to pick up a carbon copy of my truck for only 1,000 dollars sweet huh
Look at the front of the engine, on a FE part of the head is on the intake. You will see a gasket sticking out, the upper part will be in the intake, so the valve cover is bolted to the intake. Vavle covers have 5 bolts.
Do the intake and head meet under the valve cover? Does the water neck off the intake look like yours?
FEs, FTs, and MELs are the only ones I have seen that have the intake under the VCs and the last two are unlikely in a F-250. After 30-some years it is just possible someone has swapped in a 460, so buyer beware.
haha no it' aint no 460 i spent my ford... i mean formative year working on a 460. this is smaller than a 460. thanks for the tip about the intake and head and water neck
Hey if nothing else the \\ // sparkplug layout is a FE give away. Thing is any engine could be in there now, but from 65-68 the only V8 was an FE then came the 302 along with the FE until 76. Don't recall the first year you could get a 460.
and with this truck i doubt the engine is stock it was a smuggler truck bought by a local drug dealer and is being sold in the barrio.
i have worked on 302's and 460's this engine isn't one of them.
the only engine that would closely to the eye mach a 390/360 in size would be the 351.
as it was a smugglers truck chances are it is a 351 or 390/360 cuz a 460 would be a give away to the border check points.
i mean don't get me wrong it wouldn't be a deal breaker if it wasn't an fe but if it was it would make my life alot easier especially with the old lady
Watch your back if your dealing with a drug dealer to buy it. And if the local cops "know" it be sure it's clean from any past contraband it's carried. Might have some trick secret compartments tho? Hope it works out for ya.
haha titles are easy as hell man i can title any thing that isn't hot
free wares left over hmm... sounds like a turbo rebuild to me
and the local drug/law inforcement will for free let a dog sniff your ride to see what's in it i actually do it to mine about every 6 months or when i give a.... less than savorie coworker a ride. with my history and past associations i've learned the value of haveing the cops on your side
