One day I went out to my driveway and it just wouldn't start. It's getting plenty of power, the distributor's fine, I just changed the fuel filter but nothing. While I had the filter off, I turned the key to see if any gas was going through the fuel line but it wasn't. Does this mean I possibly need a new fuel pump? This is the very first time this has happened. I've never even had trouble getting it started before. I've had a check engine light that has been going on and off for years; now I'm wondering if this is what it's been warning me about...
I did a search for "fuel pump relay" but couldn't find a how to. How would I check the fuel pump relay?
Also, I do have dual tanks even though one of them does not work. Is there a fuel pump for each tank? If so, would it be cheaper for me to just repair the second tank than to deal with the fuel pump for the first?
try starting fluid to see if it will start and then run or start and then stop after the starting fluid is burned.
OK, I just went outside to check. No, I don't hear the fuel pump. Does that mean it could be the relay OR the pump? If so, how would I check the relay specificially?
Given that I don't hear the pump, is it still worth it to try the starting fluid?
EDIT: I'm reading through different threads and seeing a lot of mention about "sending units". Is this the same as the fuel pump relay switch? If not, what is this exactly? Is this something I need to check before changing my fuel pump? How would I do this?
