ok, so we thought our original p/s pump was dead on our 88 f-350 dump with the 460 because when you turned the steering wheel the pump stopped turning and the belt would start screaming. the steering wheel only turned like 1/8th of a full turn and then stopped liked something was jammed. so we replaced the pump and the same thing is happening. if the truck is jacked up the wheels turn fine but when there is pressure on the system it will not turn. our local napa said the reman pump might be bad because they have had alot of reman things die, but does this sound like a dead pump or something else? thanks in advance! Shelby
I had the same problem with the truck in my sig. It got to the point where it would not turn unless I jacked up the front end.
I am not sure how to test a steering box but I got mine from CarQuest for about $125.00. I had a shop put it in because by back won't let me do this stuff any more. Now it drives like a 5000# sports car. Total bill was less then $250.00 Hope this helps.
