Looking for some help with a Windstar...
I have a '98 Windstar w/3.8L with almost all of the options.
I short time ago, I noticed the transmission wasn't as crisp as it once was, and seemed to shift at some of the most unlikely times.
EXAMPLE: Overdrive at 20 MPH.
At the same time, the vacuum operated controls in the dashboard quit working. I looked everywhere I can think of for a broken/slipped off/ cracked hose, and have sprayed the intake and surrounding areas with WD-40, but cannot find the apparent leak. I have not yet located the vacuum sensor for the transmission (I don't think they used an actual modulator like they did on the old trannys) and suspect the leak may be there. I already had the dashboard apart, and checked the lines for the rear air conditioning. Very little vacuum present.
Questions:
1.) Where is the vacuum shift sensor located?
2.) Where might I have missed in my hunt?
Thanks, I appreciate any help you can offer.
There isn't much traffic (only about 80 members), but there are a few folks that are pretty knowledgeable.
