Got a 88 ford with 302 wont run fuel pump unless i ground the test plug on fender well. what would cause this?
Can you tell me what you mean by it wont run?
Does it just run for one second and stop when you turn on the key?
If so that is normal.
Does the engine start and run?
Does the small black wire on the ground post of the battery have a good connection?
This wire goes through a one-wire connector and then turns into a black wire with a green stripe.
I had the same problem with my 88 some time ago. It was the ground wire that goes to the negative battery post, not the cable but the small wire, it grounds your fuel pump circuit.
