Timing gears
I've got a '92 460 and it has the occasional backfire. what is this caused by? i was also talking to my shop mechanic and he said i have plastic timing gears. do they wear badly? and if so can i get a kit to change them?

I would use a good Doubler Roller set. The single chains are notorious for stretching. Also since this is an EFI engine set up the chain at the straight up (0) position. A lot of people get caught up in the earlier settings of advancing the cam, but this doesn't work well with the EFI engines. Also the backfiring is probably a different problem That chain would have to really stretch to cause backfiring. Usually a vacuum leak, a lean condition or distributor problems cause backfires.
