5th time at the dealer and still pinging. I don't get it. I wrote before about everything I've been through:
EGR SYSTEM
FUEL PRESSURE
MASS AIR
GAS BRANDS
CARBON CLEANING
And now they reprogrammed the computer and say it's noticeably different, but it still pings.
WHAT GIVES???
Anyone else been through this?
When is it time to call the lawyer?
I bought it used in the end of July and have had nothing but problems.
It's a 98 SC 4x4.
The pinging isn't the only problem, but it does worry me the most, Long term damage/Loans/Warranty.
Where do I go from here?
i own a 99 f150 and it developed a ping after 15000 miles. i was instructed to run two tanks of high test through it and then to repeat this every 5000 miles or so. have not had the ping since. don't know if this will help, but it did clear up my problem. wasn't too happy that they don't let you know this ahead of time, but that is the way car dealers work. let me know if it helps....
The dealer told me the same thing the second time I was there for this problem. It was still pinging even with the higher octane gas, that's when they told me to switch brands, it didn't change. The pinging wasn't as bad with the higher octane gas but it was still consistently hammering away (just not as loud),(but you could still hear it over the radio!!!).
I read alot about pinging and I remember if my 1970 360 engine started pinging I adjusted timing...If timing is now controlled by the computer can't that be calibrated or changed? Just guessing...
