lug nut confusion

lug nut confusion
I tried to order some locking lug nuts on the internet as well as new lugs for my new wheels and found that ford and most other auto part stores all claim that I will need 14x 2.0 lug nuts. While other manufactures say i need 14x 1.50 it caused a little confusion. I took my lug nut to to local auto parts store and matched it up to a 14x1.50 stud and it would not thread onto the 14x2.0 stud. Now keep in mind that my excursion is a 05 4x4 with a v10. I just dont understand why so many people could have this incorrect. All specs show 2000- current so I dont see where they may have changed something and no matter what options they all show the 14x2.0 as being needed. Anybody have any info on this situation. Dan

They did change the thread pitch a few years back ... and I'm guessing that it was changed with the '03 model ... though I may be wrong which year. The idea was to exert more force on the rim-to-hub connection with similar torque value.

03 was the change year for lugnuts.I found the hard way about that.Had aftermarket wheels on it when i bought it.I put factory wheels and had the earlier lugnuts.Had to buy all of them from Ford,was not cheap.If you can shop around you will find them on ebay for around $50.00 if you need stock ones.Just my experience.

Some places know this...I purchased wheels recently and I was sent the wrong ones. I called and the guy I talked to said it was their policy to get confirmation of lug size or just send 2 sets. He fed-ex'd the second set for nothing and no return needed. He too said it was a 2003 change on the SDs and there is no way to know which size you have. I would think it was a date change so build date may work but I got what I needed only 2 days late.
