New engine surging and stalling

Installed new 408 stroker with Mass air/24lb injectors (yes they are matched)/Edelbrock alum heads and intake/ comp cams roller cam etc.

Motor starts and idles, sort of. Timing at 10 BTDC. When I start to open throttle, engine will either quit, or surge. I open throttle full open and truck will run up to about 4k and then quit. All sensors are new, all parts are new. Fuel pressure is good. Vacum appears to be steady around 12in. I am suspecting the distributor as it is the only piece that is not new. It does have a new TFI module/cap/rotor wires etc. the body is used.

Is there a possiblity that the hall effect sensor in this unit is malfunctioning? It is almost like it drops the spark completely when it revs up.

This is a conversion using a painless kit and Ford performance computer. I am at a loss at this point and don't want to invest in a new distributor if I don't have to.

Thanks all

Has the computer had any tuning changes done to it? If there hasn't been then the computer doesn't know what to do with the larger engine size. It probably still thinks it's a 351W.

I wasn't aware that the computer could be modded. Thought EEC IV's were fixed. Is there a programmer out there that can modify an EEC IV?

Also, since this is a mass air system, I don't believe the computer will care about displacement??

Yes several, Tweecer, EEC Tuner, Moates chip.

The computer is programmed to run a 5.0 with 19lb injectors, the more you lie to it with fudged MAF meters and bigger injectors on a larger motor the further away from normal it will run.. if at all.

Ok all, I am about ready to toss in the towel and either go back to a carb setup or switch to a SD system that I can program. Any ideas on SD systems? My concern is that here on the left coast, I can drive from sea level to 5k above within 150 miles. I don't believe SD works as well with altitude changes. I am planning a run to New Mexico once this thing is running good and reliable. The trip will involve crossing a 9,000 ft pass. Want to make sure I am not flooding things out or need a laptop with me to have it running at that point.

Thanks
