This is my first post. I used to know a guy that owned a tire shop and he said this would happen often with full size spare tires, which can explode with age, inside the vehicle, but im not sure what it could be in your case.
Windshields are lam, other windows are tempered...
Any window besides the windshield, when shattered, will break into small pieces like that. (Tempered glass breaks into small bits rather than giant shards like regular window glass.)
Many years ago, I had a SAAB 900, and on a snowy day, with the rear defroster on, had the rear window explode while driving--I thought someone hit me with a shotgun or something, but I'm guessing it was just the thermal shock of the defroster wires vs the cold snow, etc. It was the hatchback, so I ended up with a big mess inside the car--was still finding glass bits in the spare tire well a couple years later.
But exploding while the vehicle was just sitting, without any kind of thermal shock, is definitely weird....
it was about 4:30 pm...the truck had been sitting for over an hour...not very warm out but not too cold either. It obviously went with some force
Going out to the adjuster office tomorow and see what they say..might also call the local dealer and see what they say as well...maybe i can get it under warrenty?
Took it out today..they gave me a claim number and i went to the glass place. Should be here wednesday..As far as the scratches caused by this, they didnt say anything...
I have heard of this type of thing happening if a tornado/twister is in the area. The sudden drop in the atmospheric pressure outside is unable to adjust inside the vehicle fast enough causing windows to break. This will happen in a house also if all the windows are closed during a severe storm system.
So there is a transport Canada guy coming here today to look at it...Thinks its a real safetry issue i guess if it happened while you were in traffic...
