I currently have MBRP 4" turbo back with the cat still installed. I was thinking about getting MBRPs cat delete. My question, is there any noticable performance increase? Also is the difference in sound significant, I dont want it to be obnoxious. Does it increase the diesel sound or the turbo sound?
Mines sounds like a big block gasser at initial start up then a second later it whistles like a jet. All I've found for performance increases is just a little less lag when pulling out into traffic or what not. I don't have a pyrometer yet but I'm sure the backpressure it cut down to next to nothing so a couple hundred degrees I'm guessing. Anybody have egt numbers with and without a cat?
i went w/ 409 on mine, but i wish i would have gone 304 since the 304 ones come polished...
i run w/NO cat, but i do have the performance muffler so it's not obnoxiously loud.
w/out the muffler it is WAY to loud for comfort, and the muffler doesn't really rob any horsepower like the cat does.
as far as performance goes w/the cat, if you are stock tuned, you really won't see the benefit, but if you're running a powerful tune you will definitely benefit from losing the cat. not sure exact HP figures, but the main area will you see a benefit is in EGT's i noticed about a 200 degree drop w/the cat gone, and most people i know also report a similar drop w/the cat gone.
hope this helps
If salt is ever put down where you drive then definately go with the SS and not the aluminized. I did the t409 as I do alot of traveling to Utah and No.Cal. where salt is used. The stock exhaust was t409 and there was a huge difference after driving in the salt for the first time when looking under the truck.
ya my exhaust has been on for almost 2 years and has senn 2 new england winters, its still in excelent shape a few rust specs through out but thats from the metals in the pipe!
LvTitan, you really think there is that much of a loudness difference between muffler vs strait pipe when you already have the cat delete? I have always wondered but never heard the difference

MOST DEFINITELY ! ! ! !
w/no cat and a muffler it's only loud when at WOT, but it can be driven around w/out being annoying..
w/no cat and NO muffler, there is no way to drive around w/out it being obscenely loud and attracting way too much attention no matter how you drive.
So if i went with a straight through on a 5" system, is it really loud say cruisng at 65-70
With the cat delete now, i can easily carry a conversation and hard to tell i have an exhaust on the truck, but i when i floor it, i want people to run and hide
